Product description

Sultana's Premium Basmati Rice 1121 Extra Long Grain 20 kg – Extra Long Basmati from the Punjab

The Sultana's Premium Basmati Rice 1121 is a natural, white long-grain basmati from the fertile plains of the Punjab – the region between the Himalayas and the Hindu Kush where basmati has been cultivated for centuries. The 1121 variety is regarded as the variety with the strongest grain elongation of all: when cooked, each grain stretches to up to double its length, while remaining slim, stable and pleasantly grainy. Before packaging, the rice is carefully aged, as it is only through storage that the typical, unmistakable basmati aroma develops.

Why this 1121 Basmati?

  • Extra long grain: the 1121 variety achieves the greatest grain length of all common basmati varieties – significantly longer than classic varieties such as 370 or 386.
  • Strong grain elongation: when cooked, the grain stretches to up to double its size without breaking.
  • Natural aroma: "Basmati" means "fragrant" in Hindi – the aged rice develops a warm, slightly nutty aroma when cooked.
  • Fluffy and grainy: due to its low starch content, the grains remain separate and don't stick together.
  • Gluten-free & vegan: 100 % basmati rice, with no additives, no flavourings, no colourings.

Preparation: how to get it right

  1. Wash the rice in cold water until the water stays clear (2–3 rinses) – this removes loose starch dust.
  2. Soak in cold water for 20–30 minutes. Soaking isn't essential, but it noticeably improves grain elongation and shortens the cooking time.
  3. Drain and add 1.5 times the volume of water (1 cup of rice : 1.5 cups of water), season lightly with salt.
  4. Bring to the boil once, then cover and let simmer over the lowest heat for 8–10 minutes.
  5. Remove from the heat, leave covered to rest for 5 minutes, and fluff up gently with a fork – do not stir.

Rice-to-water ratio: 1 : 1.5. Rule of thumb for quantity: 60–100 g raw rice per person as a side dish, 100–125 g as a main course.

Perfect for these dishes

The 1121 Basmati is the classic choice for Biryani, Pulao and Pilaf, for Arabic dishes such as Mandi, Kabsa and Maqluba, for Persian Chelo and Tahdig, as well as an aromatic accompaniment to curries, dal, grilled dishes and braised dishes. It is also excellent for fried rice – best made with rice from the previous day.

Lab-tested purity & safety

Every batch is tested by laboratory analysis. In the tests, arsenic, cadmium, lead and mercury were not detectable (detection limit 0.02 mg/kg, in-house method based on AOAC 2015.01). Pesticide residues were also not detectable (detection limit 0.01 mg/kg). This is particularly relevant for rice, as the plant can absorb heavy metals from the cultivation soil – which is why we consistently test and document the results.

Who is the 20 kg pack suitable for?

The 20 kg value pack is aimed at large households, snack bars, small restaurants and clubs. Thanks to the division into several bags, it can be handled easily even without storage space and portioned into the kitchen as needed. 20 kg of raw rice yields approx. 200 portions (at 100 g raw rice each).

Storage

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. Choose your preferred combination directly when ordering. 4 x 5 kg is easier to handle and keeps the remainder sealed for longer, while 2 x 10 kg saves on packaging and is quicker to put away.

Yes, you choose the combination directly when ordering. This has no effect on shipping method or cost – both options are shipped free of charge. 4 x 5 kg is easier to carry, while 2 x 10 kg saves on packaging material.

Store the packs in a dry, cool place, well sealed, and check your stock roughly every four weeks. Also avoid mixing old leftover stock with new goods – this keeps batches cleanly separated and prevents any infestation from spreading.

Usually, yes. At 20 kg, the order is under the parcel limit of 31.5 kg, so the individual packs are packaged together and delivered as one shipment. In cases of unfavourable dimensions, it may be split into two parcels, which typically arrive on the same day.

The rice is polished, i.e. white basmati without the bran layer. Wholegrain basmati has a noticeably longer cooking time of around 35 to 40 minutes and a nuttier flavour – we do not offer this variant under this product code.

Because only one pack is ever open at a time. All the remaining bags stay sealed in their original packaging, protected from moisture, light and foreign odours. With a single 20 kg sack, the entire quantity would be exposed to room air as soon as it's opened.
