Sultana's Premium Basmati Rice 1121 Extra Long Grain 10 kg – Extra Long Basmati from the Punjab
The Sultana's Premium Basmati Rice 1121 is a natural, white long-grain Basmati from the fertile plains of the Punjab – the region between the Himalayas and the Hindu Kush, where Basmati has been cultivated for centuries. The 1121 variety is considered the variety with the strongest grain elongation of all: when cooked, each grain stretches to up to double its length, while remaining slender, stable and pleasantly grainy. Before packaging, the rice is carefully aged, as it is only through storage that the typical, unmistakable Basmati aroma develops.
Why this 1121 Basmati?
- Extra long grain: the 1121 variety achieves the greatest grain length of all common Basmati varieties – significantly longer than classic varieties such as 370 or 386.
- Strong grain elongation: when cooked, the grain stretches to up to double its size without breaking.
- Natural aroma: "Basmati" means "fragrant" in Hindi – the aged rice develops a warm, slightly nutty aroma when cooked.
- Fluffy and grainy: due to the low starch content, the grains stay separate and don't stick together.
- Gluten-free & vegan: 100% Basmati rice, with no additives, no flavourings, no colourings.
Preparation: how the rice turns out perfectly
- Wash the rice in cold water until the water stays clear (2–3 rinses) – this removes loose starch dust.
- Soak in cold water for 20–30 minutes. Soaking is not essential, but it significantly improves grain elongation and shortens the cooking time.
- Drain and add 1.5 times the volume of water (1 cup rice : 1.5 cups water), season lightly with salt.
- Bring to the boil once, then let it swell covered over the lowest heat for 8–10 minutes.
- Remove from the heat, let it rest covered for 5 minutes and fluff loosely with a fork – do not stir.
Rice-to-water ratio: 1 : 1.5. Rule of thumb for quantity: 60–100 g raw rice per person as a side dish, 100–125 g as a main course.
Perfect for these dishes
The 1121 Basmati is the classic choice for Biryani, Pulao and Pilaf, for Arabic dishes such as Mandi, Kabsa and Maqluba, for Persian Chelo and Tahdig, as well as an aromatic side dish for curries, dal, grilled dishes and stews. It is also excellent for fried rice – best made with rice from the previous day.
Lab-tested purity & safety
Every batch is tested through laboratory analysis. In the tests, arsenic, cadmium, lead and mercury were not detectable (detection limit 0.02 mg/kg, in-house method based on AOAC 2015.01). Pesticide residues were also not detectable (detection limit 0.01 mg/kg). This is particularly relevant for rice, as the plant can absorb heavy metals from the cultivation soil – which is why we consistently test and document the results.
Who is the 10 kg pack suitable for?
The 10 kg pack is worthwhile for large families, shared households and anyone who uses rice as a daily staple food. The price per kilo is noticeably lower than that of the 5 kg bag, without you having to store an entire pallet load. 10 kg of raw rice yields approx. 100 portions (of 100 g raw rice).

Frequently Asked Questions
Decant a working amount into a smaller, airtight container for the kitchen and keep the rest in the well-sealed original sack. The less often the large sack is opened, the less oxygen and humidity reach the rice – which helps protect the aroma, especially with the natural grain.
Yes, we also deliver the 10 kg pack free of charge within Germany. This makes a noticeable difference to the effective price per kilo for heavy food items, as many suppliers add surcharges from exactly this weight upwards.
In terms of price, yes – the price per kilogram is lower with the 10 kg sack. However, two 5 kg bags have the advantage that one bag stays sealed, keeping the aroma protected for longer. If you cook rice only occasionally, two smaller bags are the better option.
Better not to. Place it on a shelf or a base so that air can circulate and no ground moisture rises up. Cellar rooms are only suitable if they are genuinely dry – otherwise the rice will absorb moisture.
1121 is the basmati variety with the longest grain and elongates to up to twice its original length when cooked. Older varieties such as 370 or 386 remain shorter and stockier, but are considered by many to be more aromatic. Where the long grain should be visually striking, 1121 is the first choice.
